Collapse of Argentina glacier caught on camera

Video emerged on Friday of the moment a large portion of the Perito Moreno glacier in Argentina's Patagonia detached in late February.

A group of tourists on a boat witnessed the unusual scene when ice started cramping down from a wall of almost 60 meters high and a huge mass of ice emerged from underneath the water.

According to a study released in 2021, glaciers are melting faster, losing 31% more snow and ice per year than they did 15 years earlier. The study found almost all the world's glaciers are melting, even those that used to be stable.

The near-uniform melting is a sign of increased temperatures, produced by burning fossil fuels, according to the study from ETH Zurich and the University of Toulouse in France.
