in Melbourne, more than 40 climate change protesters were arrested on Tuesday. It came after violent clashes with Australian police outside an international mining conference, authorities said. Police used pepper spray and horses to disperse the demonstrators, who were blockading the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on the first day of the three-day International Mining and Resources Conference. Apart from holding up banners and placards, protesters also formed a human chain outside the convention centre in a show of solidarity. Victorian police said several officers and protesters were injured in the scuffles.
