South Africa's African National Congress (ANC) party celebrated its 114th birthday in the northwestern town of Rustenburg on Saturday, where thousands of supporters gather.

Once the party of Nelson Mandela, the African National Congress led the struggle that toppled apartheid and has held power since South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994. In 2024, the party lost its parliamentary majority for the first time and was forced into a coalition government.
