X limits use of AI image editing to paying subscribers after backlash

Social media platform X has restricted the use of its Grok chatbot to paid subscribers following criticism of its ability to create sexualized images without people's consent.

X began limiting image generation and editing to paying users on Friday. It did not provide a reason for the move. Regulatory authorities in Italy have warned that the use of Grok and the distribution of its images could constitute a crime. The British government has said it is considering banning X.
