Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu and officials visited the Yangon Waste-to-Energy Plant located on Hlawga Road in Shwepyitha Township, which connects Pyay Road and No. 4 Road.

During the visit, officials briefed on the plant’s operations and current progress.

The Chief Minister and party then toured the facility to inspect its various operational stages, including waste processing and power generation.

The Yangon Waste-to-Energy Plant converts municipal solid waste into electricity through an incineration process, helping to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills while generating renewable energy for the power grid. The facility is one of Myanmar’s key environmental infrastructure projects aimed at improving urban waste management and reducing environmental pollution.

Waste-to-energy technology is widely used in major cities around the world as a sustainable solution to address growing waste disposal challenges. By converting waste into electricity, these plants help conserve landfill space, lower greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing waste, and support cleaner urban environments.
