Civilians board bus for evacuation from Sumy

The Ukrainian State Emergency Service shared footage of civilians preparing for evacuation from the northeastern city of Sumy, as a cease-fire was declared and humanitarian corridors opened on Tuesday. 

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister said they were headed southwest to the Ukrainian city of Poltava, and included students from India and China. Moscow’s forces have besieged Ukrainian cities and cut off food, water, heat and medicine in a growing humanitarian crisis. But for days, attempts to create corridors to safely evacuate civilians have stumbled amid continuing fighting and objections to the proposed routes. The route out of the eastern city of Sumy was one of five promised by the Russians to offer civilians a way to escape.
