The U.S. Capitol got into the holiday spirit on Wednesday with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, presided over by Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi. The ceremony included members of the New Mexico congressional delegation, as well as the Governor of New Mexico - the state that provided this year's tree. The blue spruce, standing 60 feet tall, was transported from Carson National Forest and decorated with thousands of ornaments made by residents of New Mexico.

It will now be illuminated every evening from sundown until 11p.m through January 1, 2020. The U.S. Capitol has decorated a Christmas tree on its West Front Lawn annually since 1964.
