A large number of domestic pilgrims are coming to the religious buildings in the ancient cultural land of Bagan-NyaungU area in Mandalay Region during the Christmas holidays in December, according to the Secretary of Lawkananda Tooth Relic Pagoda Board of Trustees.

Ancient pagodas such as three Buddha Tooth Relic pagodas in Bagan-NyaungU area, Tantkyi Taung tooth relic pagoda in Pakokku Township, Maha Hngetpyittaung Pagoda, and other religious edifices were visited by domestic travellers until the car parks were difficult during the Christmas holidays.

Ancient monuments, religious edifices and cultural heritages are very attractive to both local and international travellers even though it is not festival period. According to officials of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch), more than 150,000 pilgrims visited Bagan during the Christmas holidays.

Along the Kyaukpadaung NyaungU road in the Bagan ancient cultural area, the traditional huts are open to sell jaggery, groundnut oil and sesame oil during the period. Local people can easily earn incomes in giving transport services with the use of tuk-tuks, e-bike and pony carts to the travellers whereas restaurants and local tour guides are well employed.
