










The opening ceremony of the "2026 Chinese Film Exhibition Week" to mark the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar was held Monday evening at the JCineplex Cinema, Ottarathiri Shopping Complex, in Nay Pyi Taw.
The event was graced by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, and First Lady, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla. First, upon arrival of the President and first lady, along with delegation members, at the ceremony venue, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Myanmar, Ms. Ma Jia, and responsible officials warmly welcomed and greeted them.
Afterwards, the President and first lady, and the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, signed commemorative certificates to mark the opening of the 2026 Chinese Film Week. Subsequently, attendees also signed commemorative certificates in turn.
Following that, the President and first lady, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, and ceremony attendees posed for a group commemorative photo to mark the opening of the 2026 Chinese Film Week.
Then, the President granted an interview to Ms. Zhang Xiaoning, a reporter from China Media Group (CMG), responding to her questions. Thereafter, the opening ceremony of the "2026 Chinese Film Exhibition Week" commenced.
In his opening address, the President stated that this film exhibition week is not merely for entertainment, but also serves as a cultural bridge connecting and contributing to the unity of hearts among the people, bringing emotions closer, and perpetuating the long-standing "Pauk-Phaw" friendship relation between the two nations.
He noted that since the establishment of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations on June 8, 1950, successive exchange visits of friendly delegations between leaders of the two countries have gradually strengthened and improved bilateral relations. To cite notable visits, former Chairman of the Burma Socialist Programme Party, U Ne Win, made twelve friendly visits to the People's Republic of China.
Similarly, Mr. Zhou Enlai, Premier of the People's Republic of China, made nine friendly visits to Myanmar. The "Pauk-Phaw" friendship between the two countries reached its diamond jubilee in 2025 and continues to thrive and grow. on June 8, 2026, marks the 76th anniversary of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations.
During the 76 years of diplomatic ties, relations between the governments, peoples, and various sectors of the two countries have continuously improved, a matter of great pride.
On the auspicious occasion of the 76th anniversary of the establishment of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations, the President expressed the hope that the "2026 Chinese Film Exhibition Week" held this day as a commemorative event will foster enhanced cooperation across various sectors between the two countries and ensure that Myanmar-China friendship endures forever.
He wished for the continued peace, stability and development of the People's Republic of China, and extended wishings for the good health and happiness of all distinguished guests attending and the peoples of both nations. Subsequently, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar spoke about the film exhibition.
She stated that although Myanmar has a different social system, it was the first country to recognize the new China. Likewise, China has always supported Myanmar's national peace, reconciliation, and stability. The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, jointly proposed by China and Myanmar, have become fundamental norms of international relations.
She also expressed special gratitude to the President and first lady, and all delegation members, for gracing the ceremony with their presence.
Thereafter, the President and first lady, along with ceremony attendees, saluted the flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Following that, the President and first lady and attendees watched a video about the "2026 Chinese Film Exhibition Week" and the film "Lighting Up the Stars."
After the ceremony, the President cordially greeted the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar and ceremony attendees, it’s reported.
