German and Chinese chief climate negotiators pledged on Thursday to strengthen cooperation on climate change between the two countries during a meeting on the sidelines of COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh. China's Xie Zhenhua and Germany's Jeniffer Morgan met at a "Green Transition" event at China Pavilion on the 5th day of the U.N. Climate summit in Egypt.

Xie described cooperation between the two countries as "very effective" and said that it should continue to develop. He also said China learnt a lot from Germany when it comes establishing rules around trading in carbon market. Morgan said China is a crucial partner in climate negotiations. Earlier this month, Chinese President Xi Jinping received German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Beijing, where climate change was top on their agenda.
