Charitable initiative: Free eye surgery, dental and oral health treatment

In Magway Region, a free eye surgery and dental and oral health treatment activities was successfully conducted as a charitable initiative by the Magway Region Public Health and Medical Services Department in collaboration with the Ananta Cetana Foundation. The charitable initiative took place from March 3 to 12 at three designated treatment centers to provide medical assistance to patients facing difficulties in receiving eye surgery.

As part of this initiative, a three-day health screening and treatment event was held in Kani Village, Myothit Township, Magway Region, from February 19 to 21. During the screening period, 2,612 eye patients and 305 dental and oral health patients were examined. Among them, 317 patients were prioritized for surgery. Eye surgeries were successfully performed on selected patients at Minbu General Hospital on March 3, 4, 11, and 12, and at Magway General Hospital and Magway Teaching Hospital on March 6, 7, and 12, with the assistance of experienced ophthalmologists and healthcare professionals.

On March 11, the free treatment services at these hospitals were observed and supported by Sayadaw Dr. Bhaddanta Panyazawta of Thebyu Tawya Monastery, along with Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin and officials. During their visit, the Sayadaw and donors contributed financial donations and medical supplies for the patients receiving treatment.

During their visit to Magway General Hospital, Magway Teaching Hospital, and Minbu General Hospital, the Chief Minister and officials also offered offertories to the Thebyu Sayadaw. The Chairman of the Ananta Cetana Foundation presented financial donations and certificates of appreciation. Additionally, Thebyu Sayadaw donated 10 million kyats each to the hospitals for the medical trust fund.

Under this collaborative initiative, 272 cataract patients successfully underwent eye surgery, and 305 dental and oral health patients received treatment. Furthermore, 968 pairs of prescription eyeglasses were donated to patients in need, based on their health checkup results, it’s reported.
