The Central Body for Suppression of Trafficking in Persons (CBTIP) held a meeting (1/2025), at the Arindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on September 4.

The meeting was attended by a total of 47 officials, including members of the Central Body led by its Chairman, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lieutenant General Tun Tun Naung, representatives from various departments, and members who attended online.

During the meeting, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung stated that the root causes of human trafficking in Myanmar are low wages, lack of knowledge, incomplete job information, gullibility, differing legal systems between countries, high demand for illegal workers in some destination countries, and weak control over illegal border crossings.

He emphasized the need to combat human trafficking through a three-pronged approach: gaining intelligence, prevention, and taking action. He urged all relevant departments to work together to implement this strategy.

Following this, the committee members and representatives presented their reports on the implementation of anti-human trafficking efforts and offered their suggestions and feedback. The chairman then provided additional guidance and instructions on the necessary and future actions before concluding the meeting.
