









The 2nd donation ceremony was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 29th May to provide assistance in the relief and recovery efforts in the quake-hit areas.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony, and gave a speech, expressing his appreciation to those who contribute for the rescue operations.
The Prime Minister elaborated that a total of 10 regions and states across the nation were affected by devastating earthquake on 28th March and 6 of them were severely damaged causing substantial damage to 162,167 households with a total of 3,739 people killed, 5,104 were injured and 68 remained missing. Many infrastructures and buildings were also destroyed due to the earthquake including residential areas, transportation routes, telecommunication posts, schools, pagoda and religious buildings as well as farmlands and farm animals resulting in financial losses amounting to 3,804.549 billion kyat.
In order to response the devastating earthquake efficiently, the Disaster Management Centre– DMC was established on 29th March 2025 and the response measures have been carried out systematically by respective working committees under National Disaster Management Committee.
Likewise, humanitarian assistance from international organizations were permitted to ensure the rapid response measures. In order to express sympathy for the affected communities and to accelerate the rehabilitation efforts, the Tatmadaw announced a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to the end of May, 2025.
During this period, the Ethnic Armed Organizations and other armed groups are urged to avoid actions that harm public communication channels and threaten the lives and property of civilians. Rehabilitation activities must be conducted by considering both the current disasters encountered and potential disasters in advance. Investing in natural disaster preventive measures can enhance not only the resilience of the nation but also help prevent the loss of economic growth and reduce the deterioration of other development process due to natural disasters.
The Prime Minister assured the swift rehabilitation process by establishing short/long term plans, securing the better recovery than the original situation without leaving anyone behind. He also called for the concerted efforts of every individual to expedite the rehabilitation process.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the generous donations of the well-wishers and donors from local and abroad for the earthquake affect communities. It was followed by screening of a documentary video clip titled “Earthquake Recovery and the Capability of Honorable Myanmar people”.
Next, the donations were made and honorary certificates were presented to the donors in return. A total of 131.53 billion kyat and over 2.3 million US dollar cash assistance was received during the ceremony. These donated amounted also included for the construction of 51 four-apartments 4 storey buildings for the earthquake affected communities.
