The opening ceremony of the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Operational Capacity Building Course No. (1/2026), organized by the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, was held on March 16 at the Public Financial Management Training School in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Union Minister for Finance and Revenue, Dr. Kan Zaw, attended and delivered the opening address. At the ceremony, the Union Minister stated that this course is being opened with the aim of enabling departments under the Ministry to collaborate more effectively in implementing the AML/CFT processes being carried out by the State.
He emphasized that the AML/CFT process is a crucial national undertaking, as illegal funds transferred and placed through the formal banking system can impact the country's economic stability, financial sector integrity, and investments. He noted that Reporting Organizations also need to timely carry out their AML/CFT responsibilities, including scrutinizing and submitting reports on suspicious financial transactions and transactions exceeding specified amounts.
He urged the trainees to study the subjects being taught with special attention and to apply them usefully and practically in their respective areas of responsibility. The 35 officers from departments under the Ministry are attending this course, which has a duration of 5 days, it’s reported.
