Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Saturday suspended trade negotiations with the United States and vowed a "dollar-for-dollar" retaliation after Friday talks collapsed.

Mark Carney, Canadian Prime Minister said  “We waited until the United States decided to actually implement these so-called 338 tariffs. That's fine. We've got the reserves, we got the resilience, we've got the plan, we've got the focus. We will respond. We're going to focus on what we can control; we're going to build. "

The US enforced a 50% tariff on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, prompting Ottawa to announce counter-tariffs effective September 8. Canadian counter-tariffs will focus on US steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics.
