Brazil's President Lula da Silva said he is "grateful" to be "alive" after an alleged "coup" plot to prevent him and Vice President from taking office. Lula spoke publicly for the first time this after the discovery of an alleged plan to poison him after the second round of the 2022 presidential election.

Brazilian police have called for the indictment of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro over a 2022 "coup" plot to prevent current leader Lula da Silva from taking office. A police statement said its investigators had concluded that Bolsonaro and 36 others were planning the "violent overthrow of the democratic state."
