Brazil welcomes back citizens from Ukraine

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was among a welcome party for 42 Brazilians, 20 Ukrainians, five Argentinians and one Colombian arriving in Brasilia on Thursday after fleeing from conflict.

The passengers had taken a repatriation flight from Warsaw after crossing from Ukraine into Poland. Bolsonaro hailed their arrival as part of his ongoing commitment to bringing home any Brazilians trapped by the fighting in the Ukraine.

That same plane took more than 11 tons of humanitarian aid when it travelled to Europe to pick up those needing transport homes.

Bolsonaro has had a dubious position about the conflict in Ukraine, siding with the United States and the European Union at the United Nations, but has not yet condemned Russian special military operation.
