Boat - Ride Service: To Enjoy Scenic Beauty Of Taungthaman Lake

Located in Amarapura Township, Thaungthaman Lake is among the tourist destinations in Mandalay Region.

The beauty of this famous lake has been more attractive due to the world’s longest and oldest U-Bein Bridge that was constructed across the lake.

U Bein Bridge is 1.2km long and it was built with the use of teak logs.

The visitors can take a boat-ride in the lake while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Chairman, Taungthaman Boat Association, Soe Win said “The local visitors mostly visit the lake during the weekend. Boat rental fee is about 8,000 to 10,000 kyats. I hope more visitors to come when COVID-19 pandemic is gone. Foreign visitors are very rare during this time and mostly local visitors came to Thaungthaman lake and U-Bein bridge.”

Many local visitors came to enjoy boat-ride in Taungthaman lake and visited U-Bein Bridge during the month of May when the water inflow into the lake increased.

According to the Taungthaman Boat Association, there are rules for the boat drivers for the safety of the visitors.

Chairman, Taungthaman Boat Association, Soe Win said “We instructed the boat drivers not to allow boarding over 10 passengers on a boat. Drinking is also prohibited. If the boat drivers don’t follow the rules, they will get a week or 10-day suspension from their boat-ride service. We prioritize safety first and try to provide better service for the passengers. During travel seasons, we docked about 4 or 5 boats near U-Bein bridge and they are driving around the lake every hour to help the passengers for any incidents.”

There are about 40 traditional boats providing services in Taungthaman Lake for the visitors to enjoy the beauty of the lake and bridge.
