Blimp used to call attention to gender violence in Mexico

A collective dedicated to seeking justice for victims of gender violence flew a 40-meter air balloon over the Mexico City skies on Monday to call attention to crimes against women and girls. The action is part of many prepared by groups ahead of International Women's Day.

The air balloon had the messages "None in Oblivion" and "10 Femicides per day." According to official data from Mexico's federal government, 3,753 women were murdered in 2021, an average of 10 a day, but only 1,006 cases were investigated as a femicides.

According to the federal government, 293 women were murdered in January 2022 alone, but only 76 of those cases were classified as femicides.
