Bilateral Ties: Korean Ambassador Explained Postponement Of Donations

The embassy of the Republic of Korea is planning to donate the equipments of ICT to the General Administration Department (GDA), which is a civil service body that staffs all regional and state-level governments in Myanmar.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus at many countries around the world, the donation ceremony of the ICT equipments from Korea to GDA Myanmar has been postponed. The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea explained about the postponement of the ceremony in an interview in Nay Pay Taw on Friday.   

Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Lee Sang-hwa said “The diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Korea has entered the 45th anniversary and we'd like to explain our future plans for example like we will showcase and donate the 760 ICT equipments to the General Administration Department in Myanmar. The ceremony has been postponed and we will later issue the date of the ceremony when it will be organized.”

The WHO recently declared the coronavirus as a pandemic, and the public are worrying that if the spread of virus will harm the cooperation between Korea and Myanmar. The Ambassador added that the WHO has praised the surveillance and preventive measures and techniques of the Korea and said they need to share to the other countries.

Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Lee Sang-hwa said “There are also decreasing cases of the infections in these days. We've done so many preventive measures not to affect the virus to other countries. As Korea is sharing the transparent news of the coronavirus with other countries, we hope it cannot be harm the cooperation between the two countries. But some work will be postponed as part of the preventive measures.”       

The Ambassador also added that the Republic of Korea has a plan to increase more and more cooperation between Korea and Myanmar in the year of 2020.
