Beneficial of Mazin Dam: Beneficial of Mazin Dam for the dwellers in Bago Region

To supply irrigation water to the Summer paddy acres, Mazin dam  was constructed in 1998 in order to partially protect the surrounding areas of Bago   from monsoon flood, to make the Environment greener and public health and  economic development of the people .

Mazin dam is situated about 500 ft upstream from the junction of Mazin creek which flows west of Bago and Kyat Thaung Creek in Bago Region and  it is an earth dam type and the full reservoir capacity of the dam is 26,186 acre feet and water area is 1525 acres. 

Zaw Myo Naing, Head officer, Irrigation and water utilization management department(Bago), said " Mazin dam was constructed in April 1998 and completed in May 1999.That dam built with the aim of reducing flood, distributing summer paddy water and to supply above 11 million gallons per day for the drinking water. Since we built that dam, we already have been calculated for 11 million gallons. And, we can allot water to the summer paddy fields as we plan .The deep water is  30 ft and the dam height is 60 ft and length is 4100 ft. that dam is kind of earth dam. The drainage area is 10 square miles."

Irrigation and water utilization management department under the Ministry of Agriculture, livestock and irrigation conducting the maintenance works to be sustainable.

Zaw Myo Naing, Head officer, Irrigation and water utilization management department(Bago), said " This year, the dam is fully stored. The amount of the storage is bigger than previous year. We are ready to supply irrigation water for summer paddy and in addition, that is the place to relax during leisure time for the dwellers. By building that dam, we can control monsoon flood for Bago region and we can cultivate 600 acres of summer paddy per year.Maza Dam provide irrigation water to about 650 cultivation acres Maekho village tract and Zarganaingyi village tract."

Due to having auxiliary water every year ,the officials  are making arrangements not to be waste fresh water and to supply water to urban for drinking water  and to use water at the factories .
