Beijing has increased the number of fever clinics after a surge in patients following China’s announcement last week that it was ending many of the strictest COVID -19 response measures. On Sunday, 22,000 patients visited fever clinics at hospitals in Beijing, a number that’s 16 times higher than that of the previous week.

The number of patients with flu-like symptoms in the past week was 6.2 times higher than two weeks earlier and the number of fever clinics in Beijing has risen from 94 to 303. Facing a possible surge in infections, authorities are ramping up efforts to vaccinate the population, especially the elderly. The country reported 8,500 new infections on Monday.
