Bangkok evacuates residents, closes road after Purple Line tunnel leak

Bangkok authorities evacuated approximately 60 residents and closed a 200-meter stretch of Prajadhipok Road near Wongwian Yai following a water leak in the southern Purple Line subway tunnel on Friday.

The seepage caused the road surface to sink about 20 cm, prompting engineers to install building-movement sensors and deploy water pumps. The incident occurred after heavy rain on July 8, causing water to enter an underground construction section near Wongwian Yai. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site to inspect the damage, confirming that the situation is currently under control.
