The 2026–2027 academic year has officially begun on June 1st, with basic education schools across all regions and states across the country, including the Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, as well as monastic education schools and private schools, opening their doors Monday morning. Students have started attending classes peacefully and happily.

For the 2026–2027 academic year, students enrolled in primary, middle, and high schools are being provided with school textbooks, exercise books, and stationery free of charge at the time of enrollment. In addition, Kindergarten (KG) and primary school students are also receiving school uniforms free of charge.

To ensure the smooth and systematic opening of the schools, the Ministry of Education and relevant organizations have completed preparations in advance, including arranging classroom furniture, organizing school transportation services, and carrying out school cleaning, beautification, and maintenance activities to improve the overall learning environment.

As schools nationwide commenced classes today, teachers welcomed students into their respective classrooms according to grade levels. The Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, region and state Chief Ministers, commanders of regional Commands, and other responsible officials visited schools to observe teaching and learning activities and offer encouragement to teachers and students.

Furthermore, security forces and township administrative bodies are working together to ensure the safety of teachers, students, and parents, including protection from traffic accidents and other potential hazards, so that education can continue in a peaceful and secure environment.

It is also reported that students who were unable to enroll on time for various reasons are still being accepted for enrollment.

In addition, Basic Education High School-level classes (Grades 10, 11, and 12) have also begun at Military Youth Education Training School No. 1 (Yangon, Yemon) and Military Youth Education Training School No. 2 (Nay Pyi Taw).

These schools were established to provide continuous support and care for the children of active-duty Tatmadaw personnel, retired Tatmadaw personnel, and fallen Tatmadaw personnel. Many students have shown strong interest and have applied for admission to these schools, it’s reported.
