Authorities in Brazil break up drug smuggling ring

Brazilian authorities announced Tuesday the arrest of seven suspects in connection with efforts to dismantle an international drug smuggling ring, suspected of transporting thousands of kilos of cocaine to Portugal.

The Federal Police showcased four multi-million-dollar planes it had seized with stacks of wrapped bundles of cocaine hidden inside.Police were searching for another 40 individuals in connection with the seizures under the so-called Operation Discovery. The Federal Police Chief said the smuggling operation entailed altering flight plans for private aircrafts leaving Brazil for Portugal to give the false impression the flights were for business purposes.
