An Australian-Hungarian family is using their traditions of outdoor cooking to provide desperately needed hot meals to Ukrainian refugees arriving at the Hungarian border.

Tamas Marghescu, Australian-Hungarian volunteer said "We have a tradition of outdoor kitchens, and for us it's like usual, so to speak. And we make our tradition now to work and use for the refugee crisis here."

The traditional food they prepare, is cooked with love, Ilona, Australian-Hungarian volunteer, said. Many will have travelled for days toward safety and stood for hours in the cold at the border.

The International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation has set up similar outdoor kitchens at the Polish, Slovakian and Romanian borders with Ukraine.

More than 1.5 million people have fled the conflict in Ukraine into neighboring countries, according to the U.N. refugee agency, including some 150,000 that have entered Hungary.
