ASEAN Affairs: Union Minister attends educational meetings

An educational delegation led by Union Minister for Education Dr. Nyunt Pe attended opening of the 12th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting in Hanoi of Vietnam on October 13.

This meeting focused on joint efforts to reimagine learning and building resilience of education systems in ASEAN and beyond in the new context. It also approved the ASEAN Digital Transformation Education Systems Declaration to be submitted to the 40th and 41st ASEAN summits.

Reopening of schools, addressing and sustainability statements were recorded, and the ASEAN-Russian Federation Education Cooperation Process (2022-2026), Memorandum of Understanding on the ASEAN-Hungary Education Cooperation and the ASEAN Higher Education Implementation Roadmap were presented.

Also, the joint statement of the 12th ASEAN Education Ministers' Meeting was approved, and Thailand to host the 13th ASEAN Education Ministers' Meeting in 2024. Later the day, the delegation attended the Gala Dinner. On October 14, the delegation attended the 6th ASEAN plus Three Education Ministers Meeting which approved the joint statement. 

On the same day, the delegation attended the 6th East Asia Education Ministers Meeting in which the Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN reported on the ASEAN meetings held following the 5th East Asia Education Ministers Meeting. Speeches and exchange of views were made and the joint statement of the 6th East Asia Education Ministers Meeting was approved.

In this meeting, the Myanmar’s ministry of education and the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) signed the Letter of Engagement for the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM). The delegation arrived back in Yangon on Saturday afternoon.
