Arrival of more Chinese Tourists: Meeting on promoting Myanmar-China Tourism Industry

Today, more than 200 countries including Myanmar have resumed the tourism industries and about 700 million tourists around the world visited from January to September 2022. The arrival of tourists is increasing more and more in the regional countries including Myanmar.

With the aim of arriving more tourists to Myanmar for the nation’s tourism industry development and getting tourism markets and to re-develop the Chinese tourism market which is one of the most powerful outbound tourism markets in the world, a coordination meeting on promoting Myanmar-China Tourism Industry was held at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism through hybrid system on Thursday.

At the meeting, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung said that Myanmar has re-opened the domestic tourism market starting from October 2021.

The Chinese tourism market is a promising market and some neighboring countries are undertaking to promote its market. In 2019, 155 million Chinese tourists traveled around the world. In 2019, more than 1.4 million Chinese tourists entered Myanmar through airlines and border crossings.

In order to facilitate the entry of tourists, matters related to entry visas and operating flights will be coordinated with relevant ministries. It is known that China is planning recently to ease restrictions, rules and regulations on COVID-19 so that Myanmar must prepare in advance in order to gain more access to the market.

The Union Minister called on making efforts for more arrival of Chinese visitors to Myanmar through media and promoting Chinese tourism market.

Later, Chairman of Myanmar Tourism Federation and attendees discussed preparatory measures in promoting Myanmar-China tourism industry, preparations for tourist destinations and attractions, entry-visa, plan to operate flights and matters related to boosting tourism industry of the two countries.
