Hundreds of protesters marched in Buenos Aires on Wednesday to call for economic relief in the debt-ravaged Latin American country. Argentina's peso has been weaken since a shock primary election result this month. The centre-left Peronist candidate Fernandez defeated centre-right Macri, in what was widely seen as a referendum on the government's seeking of a loan from the International Monetary Fund and austerity measures it took as a condition for the loan.

Many of those protesting on Thursday are Fernandez supporters, believing the centre-left candidate will turn around the debt-burdened economy. Macri has enacted a series of emergency economic measures, including cuts in food and personal income taxes, aimed at helping families stung by Argentina's recession and 55% inflation rate. But many of his critics have not been won over. Fernandez is now the clear front-runner ahead of the Oct. 27 presidential election.
