New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern addressed and outlined efforts by her government to tackle gun crime and climate change at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Ardern told delegates gun safety measures were being introduced following the terrorist attack on a mosque in Christchurch earlier this year.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern said "Within 10 days of the attack, we made a decision to change our gun laws and banned military style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles in New Zealand. We've started on a second tranch of reforms, to register weapons and change our licensiging regime. These changes will help to make us safer."

Ardern also said climate change poses a challenge that New Zealand farmers are adapting to with a commitment to cut emissions from food production.
