New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Friday told her new Cabinet members they will govern during "one of the most difficult times" in the country's history amid the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Ardern addressed the Cabinet as they were sworn in by Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy in Wellington.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern said "I know that this means that all of you feel humbled but assured that you feel focused but empathetic and a sense of kindness to the fellow New Zealanders that you will serve,".

Grant Robertson was also sworn in as deputy prime minister, the country's first openly gay man to hold the role.

Ardern's liberal Labour Party won re-election in a landslide victory last month.
