








The opening ceremony of the 49th ASEAN Ports Association (APA) Annual Meeting was held at the Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel in Yangon on November 6, hosted by the Myanmar Ports Authority under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
First, Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Mya Tun Oo held separate meetings with the Chairman and executives of the ASEAN Ports Association, as well as with the delegation leaders from respective member countries.
During the opening ceremony, the Union Minister stated that Myanmar is greatly honored and pleased to host the meeting, warmly welcomed all distinguished guests, and expressed special gratitude to the majority of member countries for their physical attendance.
He expressed belief that this meeting would enable discussions on practical strategic processes and cooperation opportunities for enhancing maritime trade networks, improving port capabilities, and achieving sustainable development.
Following this, the Chairman of the ASEAN Ports Association, Capt. Basza Alexzandar Basri from Brunei Darussalam, delivered the opening address, and the Managing Director of the Myanmar Ports Authority, U Zaw Tun Lwin, delivered the key remarks.
The ASEAN Ports Association was established in 1974 and has now passed its 50th Golden Jubilee. Myanmar became a member country in 2005. Currently, the association comprises 9 member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, and stands firmly as a regional port community.
