Amphorae dating back 4,700 years have been discovered during underwater archaeological excavations near Kekova Island, off Kaş in Antalya. The amphorae shed new light on the long history of maritime trade along the Anatolian coast, bearing important traces of trade and cultural interaction in the eastern Mediterranean.

Clay analyses indicate that the amphorae were produced in workshops in the Jordan Valley. Similar examples have also been found in Egypt, Troy and Crete.
