South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) won 159 out of 400 seats in the National Assembly in the 2024 general elections, falling short of maintaining its unchallenged dominance.

No party secured an outright majority, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) coming second with 87 seats, followed by the (MK) and (EFF) Parties. Over 27 million South Africans participated in the elections, declared "free and fair" by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). President Cyril Ramaphosa hailed the elections as a victory for democracy, urging respect for the people's wishes. The newly elected National Assembly will convene within 14 days to elect the president.
