Anak Krakatau volcano erupts

Indonesia’s center for volcanology and geological hazard mitigation has recorded eruption activity at mount anakkrakatau volcano.

The eruption occurred at 2.34 p.m on Monday with ash column was observed some 500 meters into the sky, or about 657 meters above sea level. 

The nearest residential area is located on the sebesi island, which is about 16.5 kilometer away from krakatau.  Volcano monitoring station in south lampung calls for the public and fishermen to stay out of a five-kilometer exclusion zone around the volcano , which is currently graded at level three of four-tiered volcanic alert system.
