Amnesty Granted: Reducing Prison Terms and Criminal Proceedings Withdrawn

State Administration Council issued order Nos. 14, 15, 16 and 17/2022 on Saturday to mark the 75th Anniversary of Union Day falling on the 12th of February. Under Sub-section (1) of Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the jail sentence for Daw Nan Khin Htwe Myint, daughter of U Saw Hla Tun, who was jailed at Hpa-An prison, has been reduced by half.

Likewise, 814 prisoners were granted amnesty with the condition that “if they commit another offence, they will continue to serve the remaining sentences”. So also, 7 foreign prisoners were granted amnesty and deported. Moreover, under Section 419 of the Constitution, the ongoing criminal proceedings against AA members and 46 subordinates have been withdrawn and released them by honouring the Diamond Jubilee Union Day and ensuring durable peace.
