






Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan attended the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY-XII) and related meetings via Virtual System at the meeting hall (upstairs) of the Ministry, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on June 21st.Under the agenda of the AMMY-XII, Mr. YB Adam Adli Abd Malmfrom Malaysia clarified the efforts for the uplifting the mental health of the youth in the region with the motto “Overcome mental health problems together”.
Union Minister U Min Thein Zan discussed that the findings from the survey conducted in 204 countries regarding with the global depression situation due to the COVID-19 in 2020 revealed that the youth are more affected by the depression than the adults. According to the 2022 Global Mental Health Report, within a year of COVID-19 pandemic, the percentage of people affected by depression has risen at 25%.
In Myanmar, the youth showed their resilience by participating in volunteering in the work process of COVID-19 prevention, control and response. The youth were given the mental and social supporting training courses. By the cooperation of the youth, the mental health uplifting and mental and social building up could be implemented etc.
In the afternoon agendas, the Union Minister U Min Thein Zan said that the 2024 13thASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY-XIII) will be hosted by Myanmar during October or November in Nay Pyi Taw. It’s needed to have understanding, friendship and unity among the youth who will shoulder the State responsibilities in the future.
Next, the Malaysia and the Republic of Korea which were responsible as joint-Chair officially handed over the responsibility to Myanmar and People’s Republic of China which will take duty to host the AMMY-XIII, 9th ASEAN+3 Ministerial Meeting on Youth as join-Chair and the meeting was concluded. That meeting and a meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on youth held on 19th and 20th June were attended by the director General U Nay Win of the Department of Youth Affairs and officials.
