Agriculture & Livestock Sector: Dy Minister makes inspections, holds meetings in Shan State

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Gyi made inspections in Shan State.

First, at the central regional research center in Aungban Township, the Deputy Minister inspected research process and called on concerned officials to formulate and implement crop type plans that will develop the interests of farmers and growers, to distribute disease-resistant cultivars and technologies suitable for the region and to accelerate multiple cropping.

There, he also inspected the ideal planting ground for drought-tolerant wheat varieties. Also, the Deputy Minister inspected the Agriculture Institute (Heho), heard reports and called for efforts for human resource development activities. He also met with livestock entrepreneurs and livestock farmers to discuss development of the livestock sector and increasing investment in the sector.

After the meeting, the Deputy Minister handed over rice donated by Japan under the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve program to Shan State Chief Minister Dr. Kyaw Tun.

Also, in the meeting with concerned officials, the Deputy Minister stressed the food security, nutrition, food safety, improving the socio-economic lives of farmers and growers, regional development, provision of necessary knowledge and technology, effective use of farmlands, acceleration of multiple cropping, development of high quality agricultural products and cooperation between the department, farmers and the private sector for the development of private and commercial livestock farming.
