Agricultural Sector: Development Of Monsoon Paddy Production Discussed

The summer paddy growing in Sagaing Region with the main source of irrigation water from Thaphanseik Dam has been dropped as of 2019 due to the depending on the water supply from the dam.

So, the relevant departments need to draw the effective plans for the growth of monsoon paddy crop production not to affect the domestic consumption and export volume, said, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo at the meeting on development of monsoon and summer paddy growing in Sagaing Region held in the morning on Tuesday.

The union minister also said that the systematic management of water utilization must be formed with the coordination of the water utilizing members of farmers for the effective utilization and not for being waste of water from the dam, the techniques should be disseminated for the good agricultural practices, preparedness for protection from the losses of crops caused by the pests and mitigation of fertilizer and utilization of inputs and the natural disaster preparedness and preparations for the necessary arrangements of required machineries and tools, storages of reserve seeds and agricultural inputs should made to mitigate the impacts of natural disaster.

The director-generals of relevant departments reported the work implementation of respective sector and the union minister and deputy minister supplemented necessaries. Over 1.8 million acres of monsoon paddy will be grown in Sagaing Region this year with the water supply irrigated from dam, river water pumping, artesian well and rain water.
