Agricultural development : Good quality seeds are producing in seed division

The Seed Division, Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is conducting the production of high-yielding and good quality strains in the region and seed growing works through the research for the important crops including quality rice as well as distribution works are being conducted if it is only achieved good quality strains after testing in the seed quality control labs in order to meet the set standards.

The seed division is being carried out in producing commercially attractive certified quality seeds to be able to use for the farmers.

Assistant Director, Seed Division (Bago Region), San San Htay, said “Aiming at the farmers to be able to use certified and good demand quality seeds, our division is being distributed and implemented. We make the field inspection not to mix the other strains or weeds in the cultivation fields.

In doing so, if it is passed in the field in line with the good quality standards, they are dried systematically, then when we reach storing step, sample seeds are tested in the labs and only qualified seeds are distributed.”

She added that standardizing is vary depends on seed levels while quality testing in the labs.

Assistant Director, Seed Division (Bago Region), San SanHtay said “Breeder seeds are produced only at the Department of Agricultural Research. Foundation seeds have to be produced at seed farms.  And register seed production is also at the seed farms. Last, farmers use certified seeds.”

At the same time, in order to develop seed production technique, knowledge sharing programs are being conducted in cooperation with agricultural extension division, private seed production companies and farmers.

Assistant Director, Seed Division (Bago Region), San SanHtay, said “ We give trainings, discussions to seed producer farmers and companies, and give lectures and make exhibition in order to produce good quality strains and we provide suitable supports.”

  The Seed Division, Department of Agriculture is going to try following updated technologies to improve socio-economic life of the farmers.
