
The Ministry of Commerce organized the second-day meeting with the Myanmar Commercial Attaches serving in 13 foreign countries and the counsellor to the World Trade Organization to boost trade volumes and expand exports Wednesday afternoon in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, the Myanmar Commercial Attaches in South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Belgium, Germany and India and the counsellor to the World Trade Organization presented the possibility of boosting bilateral trade between the respective countries and Myanmar, to expand new exports, Myanmar’s participation in the World Trade Organization and further plans.
Union Minister Dr Pwint San said he was pleased to see that the capacity of the attaches had improved during their tenure and that they had been able to work smartly to promote trade and investment. He urged them to make effort as Myanmar is a major exporter of agricultural products, and exporting value-added products instead of agricultural raw materials would profit more, in addition, to creating job opportunities for the people.
Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung urged the commercial attaches to submit information about policy changes, rules and regulations to be followed in bilateral trade, other rules and regulations issued from time to time in the respective countries as soon as possible so that the Myanmar government, organizations, entrepreneurs have time to prepare.
He also instructed the commercial attaches serving in the bordering countries to liaise with the relevant departments in order to ensure a smooth flow of goods and open the border checkpoints.
