







The first day of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw First Regular Session commenced at 10:00 AM on March 16, at the Pyithu Hluttaw meeting hall in the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw. Attending the session were the elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives from regions and states, along with Tatmadaw Pyithu Hluttaw representatives.
Firstly, the attending Pyithu Hluttaw representatives elected a representative as Chairperson Pro Tempore to preside over the session until the election of the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker and Deputy Speaker is completed. As there were two nominees proposed for the Chairperson Pro Tempore position, a secret ballot was conducted.
Dr. Nanda Kyaw Swa from Dagon constituency, who received the highest number of votes, was elected as Chairperson Pro Tempore. Subsequently, Chairperson Pro Tempore Dr. Nanda Kyaw Swa took affirmation and signed statement of allegiance in the presence of the Pyithu Hluttaw, and extended the greeting.
Following this, the Chairperson Pro Tempore announced that with all 373 eligible representatives attending, the Third Pyithu Hluttaw First Regular Session was valid with cent per cent attendance, and declared the session open. The Pyithu Hluttaw representatives then took affirmation in the presence of the Chairperson Pro Tempore and signed the statements of allegiance.
Next, for the election of the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker, Dr. Pwint San from Yat Sauk constituency nominated U Khin Yi from Zeyarthiri constituency as the sole candidate for Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker. U Than Tun from Pathein constituency seconded the nomination. Accordingly, the Chairperson Pro Tempore announced that U Khin Yi from Zeyarthiri constituency was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker in accordance with Rule 11 of the Pyithu Hluttaw By-law (2013).
For the election of the Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker, U Thet Pon from Sagaing constituency nominated U Maung Maung Ohn from Tatkone constituency as the sole candidate for Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker. U Hla Swe from Pobbathiri constituency seconded the nomination.
Consequently, the Chairperson Pro Tempore announced that U Maung Maung Ohn from Tatkone constituency was elected as Deputy Speaker in accordance with Rule 13 of the Pyithu Hluttaw By-law (2013). Subsequently, U Khin Yi and U Maung Maung Ohn, who were elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively, took affirmation in the presence of the Chairperson Pro Tempore and signed the statements of allegiance.
Afterwards, the Chairperson Pro Tempore handed over responsibilities to Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi in accordance with Rule 15 of the Pyithu Hluttaw By-law (2013). The Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker then delivered an address. It is reported that the first day of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw First Regular Session was then adjourned, with the date and time for the second day of the session to be announced.
