16 day campaign: MNCWA organizes campaign to end violence against women

Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs commemorates on 16 day campaign for elimination of violence against women on Thursday at the ministry of social welfare, relief and resettlement with two section including presence in person and online participation.

Also present at the occasion were the Union Minister for social welfare, relief and resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, deputy minister, chairman, vice chairman and members of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, members of National Committee for Women's Affairs, chairpersons and secretaries of Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states committees, director-generals, deputy director-generals and departmental officials and representatives from Non-Government Organizations.

First, the chairperson of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs Union Minister gave an opening speech. In her speech, the union minister said that Myanmar is member country of Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women-CEDAW, ASEAN Committee on Women-ACW and ASEAN Commission on the Prevention and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children–ACWC, Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women-CEDAW.

The violence against women is a human rights violation and it affects the rights and entitlements of women and girls. This year’s theme on the 16 days campaign for elimination of violence against women is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!” And all are urged to accelerate the cooperation in the collective efforts of government, private sector and public for the protection of women from various forms of violence.

Then, video clip of educating program on violence against women was screen and awarded the prize winners in the article writing contest and puzzle contest held as hailing activities of 16 days campaign for elimination of violence against women. After taking documentary group photo by the participants, the commemoration was concluded.
