1 dead, 5 people injured in knife attack in southern Austria

A 14-year-old boy was killed and five other people injured in a knife attack in the southern Austrian city of Villach on Saturday, police said.

A man randomly stabbed passers-by around 4 p.m. local time in downtown Villach, Austrian broadcaster ORF quoted local police as saying.

The suspected attacker, a 23-year-old Syrian, was arrested shortly after the incident. Injured persons are receiving intensive medical care, according to the police. Shortly after the incident, the police launched a large-scale manhunt throughout the city to search for possible accomplices, but it remains unclear whether the Syrian is a lone attacker, ORF reported.
