“Read me a Book” course and workshop: To incrase reading habits and knowledge for youths

Under ASEAN Children's Reading Culture Development Project Jointly conducted by the National Libraries in ASEAN and the National Library for Children of the Republic of Korea, “Read me a book Course and Workshop” was opened at the National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) on Thursday.

At the ceremony, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko said that the program will include two parts. On 15th June, “Reading aloud” course will be conducted theoretically and practically and on 16th June, the workshop on practical reading and Read me a book program will be conducted by trainees.

This is 3-year project to nurture reading habit for students and children who will be the future leaders. According to the aim of the project, the 3 future work programs are Children’s creative writing, story telling and Read me a book.

Among them, Myanmar chose “Read me a Book” program and the “Reading” course and workshop was held at the National Library (Yangon) on 11th and 12th May and the similar course and workshop will be held at the National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) for two days on 15th and 16th June.

The project will be conducted nationwide and it is also arranged to conduct “Read me a Book” program by librarians of school libraries, public libraries, self-reliant libraries of respective regions and states from May to September of this year.

The Union Minister continued to say that the program is to increase reading practices and habits and have knowledge for the students across the nation and to know the youths that libraries can help them develop good habits and have knowledge. He also urged all to cooperate for promoting reading habit of the youths.

Later, the Director General of Historical Research and National Library Department explained about opening the course. The course will be conducted for two days on 15th and 16th June.
