Pet dogs and cats dressed in traditional kimonos gathered at a shrine in Tokyo, Japan, to receive blessings during a festival traditionally held to celebrate children's growth. Known as Shichi-Go-San, meaning seven, five and three, the annual festival marks milestones for children aged three, five and seven.

Amid Japan's declining population and changing family structures, increasing numbers of pet owners are bringing their dogs and cats to the shrine to pray for their health and well-being. Shrine representatives said more families are treating pets as family members, reflecting changes in family lifestyles and traditions.
