A coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Labour on Friday, to ensure money sent by Myanmar migrant workers abroad reaches their families through official channels via the Central Bank of Myanmar.
Union Minister U Maung Myint attended the meeting and gave an opening speech, saying that the government is working to protect Myanmar migrant workers abroad and establish a proper system for transferring their earnings to their families through legal banking channels.
He highlighted that remittances play an important role in supporting families' daily expenses, healthcare, education and savings, while also contributing to national development.
He also explained that five Certificate of Identity (CI) application centres had been opened in Thailand since October 14, 2026. Workers applying for CI documents are required to provide evidence of one year's minimum income tax payment and three months of family remittances. Remittance services such as True Money, 2C2P Wave, K+Bank, Kasikorn Bank and Dee Money were among the channels used by migrant workers.
Relevant transaction records will be submitted to the Central Bank of Myanmar for verification. During the meeting, participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation among banks, remittance businesses and relevant ministries to ensure that workers' remittances enter Myanmar through official channels.
Deputy Minister U Myo Aung also called for joint efforts to protect migrant workers, improve their families' livelihoods and promote safe and dignified migration.
