Australian mushroom murderer loses appeal as court delivers harsher sentence

Australia’s Victorian Supreme Court of appeal has ruled that Erin Patterson should be jailed for life with no parole over deadly beef wellington lunch that killed three people. Erin Patterson was last year sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 33 years for the murders of her estranged husband’s parents, and his aunt, after she hosted them for a lunch.

The court of appeal ruled on the two appeals on Friday, after justices heard arguments from her legal team and prosecutors in August. Patterson’s appeal against her murder convictions was dismissed. The prosecution’s appeal was successful, resulting in her sentence being increased to life imprisonment without parole.
