Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of possible bread and beer production at Tell Muhammad, an ancient Mesopotamian site in Baghdad. The site dates mainly from the period of Hammurabi, between 2000 and 1600 BC. The excavations, which began in 2022, also revealed two gates in the site’s fortification walls, including a smaller entrance possibly used by military forces.

Nicola Aneri, archaeology professor, University of Catania said "The site is mainly of the period of Hammurabi and slightly earlier, so from 2000 BC to around 1600 BC. We excavated areas related to the fortification walls, where we found two gates, one small postern for probably the military forces. After that, we decided to create an archaeological park."

An archaeological park has been established at Tell Muhammad, while the nearby site of Aqar Quf has also been opened to visitors as part of efforts to preserve Baghdad’s cultural heritage and promote tourism.
