The Mongolian government has decided to withdraw a bill proposing to allocate MNT 3 trillion in anticipated Oyu Tolgoi dividends toward healthcare, education, housing, and critical energy and heating infrastructure projects.  A bill submitted to the State Great Khural (Parliament) proposed allocating MNT 1 trillion of the MNT 3 trillion in anticipated dividends from Oyu Tolgoi to the National Savings Fund to support healthcare, education, and housing.

The remaining MNT 2 trillion was intended to address longstanding challenges in the country’s energy and heating infrastructure, which have remained unresolved for years. However, at an extraordinary Cabinet meeting held on Friday, the Government of Mongolia decided to withdraw the draft Law on Addressing Pressing Social and Basic Infrastructure Issues from Parliament.
